Gemini Gems

He āhua hē tōku āhua i tēnei rā." Ari: "Kāti te whakahīhī! He rorirori noa iho. Titiro mai!" (Ka tango i te whakaahua, ka katakata). Kauri: (Ka tūohu tōna mahunga, ka heke tōna ihi). "Kua kī atu au, kāore au i whakaae..." Te Putanga: Kua takahia te tapu o te tangata. Kua heke te mana o Kauri i te mea kīhai ia i whakarongohia. Kua pūtake mai te mamae. Whakaaturanga E: Ka hāpai i te Mana (Consent is respected) Ari: "E hoa, he pai tēnei wāhi mō tētahi whakaahua! Ka pai mehemea ka tango au i tētahi o tāua?" Kauri: (Ka āhua māharahara) "Ā... kāore au i te mōhio. He āhua ngenge tōku āhua." Ari: "E pai ana, e hoa. Whakamahia ngā kupu: "He tapu tōku tinana," "Kei a koe te tikanga," "Whakaae." Pedagogical Rationale Action & Expression: Roleplay allows students to "feel" the social pressure and practice the exact Reo Māori phrases needed to set boundaries in a safe environment. Engagement: By using a relatable scenario like social media, 12-year-olds see the immediate relevance of Tikanga in their modern lives. Next Steps for Refinement Scenarios: Would you like me to provide 3-4 more specific scenarios (e.g., borrowing a hoodie, a physical hug, or sharing a secret) so groups have different starting points? Refining the Reo: Do you want more "formal" Te Reo Māori options, or should we keep it "colloquial" (the way 12-year-olds actually speak to each other)? Me haere tonu tāua ki hea? Shall we add more scenarios to the choice board?

Te Reo Māori Keyboard

I very much want to acknowledge PB Tech in regard to their effort to try to create something that promotes and supports both ākonga, te reo Māori and mātauranga in Aotearoa. Sadly, it does however have educational issues and cautions when it comes to te reo Māori language learning. Things I wish it had and things I wish it didn't.
